n-u is an independent research practice looking at how people build projects across parallel practices.
We are interested in what happens when people move between worlds.
An architect who DJs on weekends. A photographer who started making zines and slowly began showing them alongside their photographs. A person working in advertising who also runs a newsletter. A fashion designer who runs a supper club. A filmmaker who became obsessed with collecting old magazines. A lawyer who started a run club that became a regular part of the neighbourhood.
None of this is particularly new. What feels new is how many people are choosing to live this way now. Things do not need to make sense together to be worth doing. They can be things you wanted to try, got curious about, and kept going with long enough that they became yours.
Eventually, one practice starts changing the way you approach another.
The photographer starts thinking about objects differently. The designer becomes more interested in hospitality. The person in advertising starts looking at brands through the lens of the spaces they spend time in. A run club becomes a way of thinking about community as much as running.
Something interesting happens when an individual keeps several practices alive at once.
References move between worlds. Taste moves with them. So do ideas, instincts and ways of working.
That movement is part of what we study.

in practice
A journal of practice.
A space to slow down, look closely at the work, and think about how a practice takes shape.
We sit down with people building across disciplines and interests, asking questions that open up what sits behind their work. We then publish what comes from that conversation.
The result is less an interview than a record of someone thinking through their own practice.

our weekly newsletter, one file: a project, brand, space, community or cultural idea, opened up so you can see what sits underneath it and what you might carry into your own work.
